Arboricultural Surveyor

RSK Hi-Line is looking to recruit an arboricultural surveyor to its expanding consultancy department at its Exeter head office. You will preferable be qualified to QCF Level 4 in arboriculture and have at least 3 years’ experience working in arboriculture. A combination of practical and consultancy experience is preferred but not essential as training will be offered to the successful applicant. A mixture of a lesser qualification and an increased level of experience within the industry may also be considered.

Reporting directly to the consultancy lead, this is a multi-faceted role in which you will be responsible for providing Hi-Line’s clients with technical information and arboricultural advice.

Your responsibilities will include:

Assessments / Surveys / Reports

  • Carrying out tree health and condition assessments
  • Carrying out basic and detailed tree risk assessments
  • Undertaking routine tree inventories and basic assessments for a wide range of clients
  • Carrying out the full range of surveys and reports for planning applications in accordance with BS5837:2012 ‘Trees in relation to design demolition and construction – Recommendations’
  • Compiling Tree Work Applications and liaising with local authorities on behalf of the client

Customer / Client Relations

  • Representing RSK Hi-Line to a high professional standard with external customers and clients
  • Building and developing client management relationships
  • Attending meetings with customers and clients as well as other companies within the RSK Group

Qualifications and Experience

  • Suitable combinations of qualifications and experience might include:
    • Professional Diploma (Level 4) + min 3 years’ experience in arboriculture
    • Technicians Certificate (Level 3) + min 3 years’ experience in arboriculture
  • Training and certification in (or at least good working knowledge of) proprietary tree risk assessment methodologies widely applied in the industry (e.g. QTRA, VALID)
  • Good tree identification skills
  • Knowledge of a broad range of diagnostic techniques (e.g. acoustic tomography, micro-drill decay detection, static load testing)
  • Good knowledge of pruning principles and techniques
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Eligibility to work within the UK

Training will be offered to a successful candidate with lesser qualifications who exhibits strong enthusiasm and motivation for advancing their arboricultural knowledge and skills.

This is a new post and is expected to evolve over time, therefore a quarterly review will be held between the post holder and their Line Manager.
